Using Silver and Gold Leaf

Silver leaf and gold leaf are light as a feather and a super thin material. Working with this product requires a lot of patience and experience. The more sure you are with your hands, the better quality and look you will receive from the application. The best feature of silver and gold leaf is that it does not tarnish and keeps it’s luster for a long period of time.

When applying silver or gold leaf, there are no room for mistakes. As adhesive is drying, you have only a certain window of time to apply silver or gold leaf .

The project I’m working on, is a silver leaf frame. It came in half finished from the factory. The frame was suppose to have a certain edging. They were trying to edge and match the sample, but they scratched the frame.
I had to make a decision, if I am going to put adhesive only on a 1/2 a frame on what they didn’t finish or I am going to redo the whole frame?

Because of the damage on existing silver leaf, I decided to redo the whole frame, so it will have a balanced and even finish through out the project.

As you will see on the pictures, the frame has a lot of chips and other damage to it. This project is a new mirror.

There is a lot of pluses and minuses to using these leaf products. Over all silver leaf or gold leaf never gets old. If installed/applied properly, leaf is sturdy, quality and it has a unique look and feel which always looks good.
